Nancy Lord, former Alaska State Writer Laureate (2008-2010), is the author of three short story collections and five books of literary nonfiction including Beluga Days and Early Warming, and the editor of the recent anthology Made of Salmon. Her “science novel,” The Pteropod Gang (name may change) is due out later this year. Her work has also appeared widely in journals and magazines and has been honored with awards including a Pushcart Prize. She has an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College and has received two individual artist’s fellowships from the Alaska State Council on the Arts, a Rasmuson artist fellowship, and numerous fellowships at artists’ colonies and residency programs. She is an adjunct professor at the Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College-UAA and is on the faculty of University of Alaska Anchorage’s low-residency MFA writing program. Since 2015 she’s also been teaching in the Johns Hopkins on-line graduate science writing program.
